Why Hair Prep Matters for Sharp, Eye-Catching Portraits

When it comes to portraits, the eyes truly are everything. They’re what draw you in and bring a photo to life. That’s why it’s so important that I can clearly see them in your images.

One of the easiest ways to make sure your child’s eyes shine is to keep hair out of their face. A quick trim before the session or pinning back those wispy bangs can make a huge difference.

Here’s why: my camera’s autofocus locks onto the spot I choose — and I always aim for the eyes. But with fast-moving toddlers (and let’s be honest, they all move fast!), if even a tiny strand of hair falls across their eye, the camera will grab focus on the hair instead. That leaves the eye looking a little soft or blurry.

So, a little prep with hair makes sure those beautiful eyes are sharp, bright, and the star of the portrait — just like they should be. ✨

I love this image, I just wish her hair was not in her eyes so I could see them better!
