How to Dress a Baby Under One for an Outdoor Fall Session in Seattle
Seattle Family Photographer Tips
Fall in Seattle is beautiful—but it can also be chilly, damp, and unpredictable. If you're planning an outdoor photo session with your little one under the age of one, dressing them properly can make all the difference—for both comfort and cute photos.
Here’s how to keep your baby warm, cozy, and camera-ready:
1. Think Layers
Layers are key! Start with a soft cotton onesie or bodysuit, then add leggings or footed pants and a knit sweater or jacket. Layers keep your baby warm and are easy to adjust if it’s milder than expected.
2. Add Texture & Neutral Tones
Textures like knits, ribbed cotton, and soft fleece photograph beautifully. Stay away from too many patterns to keep the focus on your baby’s sweet face.
3. Don't Forget Feet & Hands
Babies lose heat quickly through their extremities. Footed leggings or warm booties, plus a cozy hat and mittens, can make a big difference. Bonus: a soft beanie (to toque if you are Canadian) or bonnet adds charm to any photo.
4. Bring a Blanket
A neutral-toned, textured blanket is perfect for cuddles, extra warmth, or wrapping baby up between shots. It also adds a sweet, layered look to your gallery.
Babies under one are especially sensitive to temperature shifts, so comfort is everything. The cozier they feel, the happier—and more photogenic—they’ll be!
