Maternity Photos: How to Coordinate Dark Outfits

Coordinating Partner & Kids Outfits When Mom Wears Dark Tones

  • Mom’s palette: deep hues.

  • Everyone else: choose complementary shades in the same dark family. Avoid light colors so the focus stays on mom’s bump.

  • Solids over prints: keep pieces solid to create a clean, timeless look.

  • Add texture, no patterns: knits, lace, ribbing, and layered fabrics are great— NO florals, stripes, polka dots, and logos.

  • Coordinate, don’t match: no identical outfits (please don’t put everyone in the same black shirt).

Example: Mom in a charcoal dress; partner in a slate button-down with black trousers; toddler in a gray sweater with dark pants.
