Keeping Your Baby Safe During a Newborn Photoshoot

What I Do & Why It Matters

It’s hard to trust your brand-new baby with a photographer. As a newborn photographer with 10 years of experience, I know how precious your little humans are. I have been working with babies for a decade and know how to expertly handle your littles.

Those sweet, sleepy poses may look effortless, but there’s actually a lot that goes into making sure your baby is safe and comfortable during a session.

A Warm & Cozy Setup

Newborns love warmth—it reminds them of being in the womb. That’s why I keep my studio (or ask you to warm up your home) nice and toasty, usually around 75°F, so your little one stays comfy, especially for those adorable bare-skin shots. I also wear cotton gloves so they don’t feel my chilly PNW hands.

Baby-Led Posing

Every baby has their preferences, and although I do have a posing flow for all my newborn sessions, I let the baby lead the way. If a pose isn’t working, I move on. Your baby’s comfort is far more important than any particular shot.

Spotters & Safe Posing Techniques

Ever seen those dreamy, gravity-defying newborn photos where the baby is leaning on their hands? That one is called the froggy pose. These images are actually a mix of careful posing and digital editing! It’s two shots in one. I never put a baby in an unsafe position. If a pose requires extra support, I’ll have a parent or assistant keep a steady hand on the baby, and I’ll edit it out later.Clean & Sanitized Everything

Newborns have super-sensitive immune systems, so I take hygiene seriously. For extra safety, I still wear a KN95 mask when I’m close to the baby. I also wash my hands before picking up your little one. I also, of course, reschedule if I have a cold and ask my clients to do the same.

A Calm & Relaxing Environment

Babies can pick up on stress, so I keep the atmosphere quiet, cozy, and soothing. Soft music or white noise helps keep them relaxed. Please no stress if your baby isn’t acting as you want them to. They are just getting used to being out of the womb.

Safety First, Always

My goal is for you to have a beautiful experience and stunning photos without worry.

If you’re looking for a newborn photographer who puts safety first, I’d love to chat! I have three different newborn sessions to accommodate my clients. Book here now.
