Best Time for Maternity Photos: What’s Right for You?

As a maternity photographer, one of the most common questions I get is, “When should I schedule my maternity photos?” The answer? It depends! Every pregnancy is unique, and the perfect timing varies from mother to mother.

The Sweet Spot: 28–34 Weeks

For most expectant moms, the ideal time for a maternity session is between 28 and 34 weeks. By this point, your baby bump is beautifully round, but you’re still comfortable enough to move and pose with ease. We don’t want to go too late and risk premature labour and not capturing your special time.

Why It Varies

Some moms-to-be feel great well into their third trimester, while others experience discomfort earlier. If you’re expecting twins (or more!), you may want to schedule your session closer to 26 weeks, as your bump will develop sooner. On the other hand, if you’re carrying small or want a more dramatic look, you might prefer to wait until 34 weeks.

Listen to Your Body

Ultimately, the best time for maternity photos is when you feel your best. If you have swelling or discomfort early on, consider booking sooner. If you love the idea of a bigger belly, waiting a bit longer might be perfect for you.

No matter when you choose, capturing this special time is always worth it!
