When to book your maternity session in my Redmond maternity studio

So exciting that you are welcoming a new little one into the family. Whether it’s your first or your 3rd, it’s so wonderful to be able to capture these memories in photos for your memories to come.

WHEN TO BOOK

I suggest booking your maternity session at the start of your 2nd trimester, once you’ve had your first ultrasound.

It allows time for creative planning and conceptualizing unique photo ideas.

DON’T WORRY

What is something awful happens and you miscarry? Most photographers are very reasonable people, myself included. You will absolutely get a credit towards your next session with me. This is meant to be enjoyable, not stressful.

WHEN TO SCHEDULE

Many expecting mothers find the start of their third trimester to be the ideal time for a maternity photo shoot.

At 30 weeks +, the belly is beautifully rounded but not too large, offering a comfortable yet visibly pregnant look.

You'll likely have more energy during this time, making the photo session enjoyable.

Try to book your session before 35 weeks so there are less risks of missing your session due to pre-term labor, and end of term bed rest.

CONSIDER YOUR COMFORT

Pay attention to your body's cues and choose a time that aligns with your comfort level.

If this is your 1st baby your belly will likely “pop” (become more visible) a little later in your pregnancy, so book your session around 32 weeks.

If this is your 2nd or subsequent pregnancy, your belly will “pop” earlier, and you will be more uncomfortable sooner in your pregnancy. Consider scheduling your session sooner.

These are suggestions, discuss the nuances with your photographer to schedule your session when it’s appropriate for you.

PLAN IN ADVANCE

Booking in advance ensures you secure your preferred photographer and allows time for pre-session consultations.

CAPTURE YOUR GLOW

Maternity sessions often aim to capture the radiant "pregnancy glow."

This natural glow is usually at its peak during the end of the second trimester and beginning of the first.

ADD FAMILY OR SIBLINGS TO YOUR SESSION

If you plan to include family or siblings in the session, consider their schedules and availability.

If you have a toddler for example we will want to avoid their nap time.

If you want to include your partner, scheduling at the end of their work day or on a weekend morning can make it easier.

Studio sessions are normally 1.5-2 hours. I suggest mom come for the first portion alone, then partner and siblings come for the last portion. This way no one is waiting around if a partner has a busy work schedule and little ones don’t get stir crazy waiting for their turn.

PLAN FOR FINAL PRODUCT

Keep in mind the time it takes for post-processing and delivering the final images.

Factor this into your timeline, especially if you plan to use the photos for announcements or decorations.
