Rule of Thirds in Photography | Newborn and Maternity Photographer in Redmond, WA

Do you know about the rule of thirds in photography? Why are my photos composed a certain way?

Well why don’t I explain!

“What is the rule of thirds? The rule of thirds is a composition guideline that places your subject in the left or right third of an image, leaving the other two thirds more open. While there are other forms of composition, the rule of thirds generally leads to compelling and well-composed shots.”

I often do this in my shots. To sometimes highlight the background, but also to highlight the subject.

When I was doing my masters in photography if I placed a subject in the center of my image, or cropped too tight, I would ALWAYS get in trouble. Seriously. Always.

For every rule in photography, a artist can easily show you by breaking the rules they create magic too. This is just one of the many ways I create magic in some of my photos.
